Vikramaditya was a mythical emperor of ancient India. He was born in 102 BC. He was called the greatest judge in history because he always gave perfect justice to his people. He was constantly characterized as an ideal king, he was known for his charity, strength, and patronage of scholars. He has been featured in hundreds of famous Indian tales, including those in Singhasan Battisi and Baital Pachisi.

In his kingdom there was a farmer, he was very poor, he lived with his young son who was studying. For higher studies, he wanted to go out of town. So he spoke to his father and told him about his plans. After a lot of effort, his father got convinced and permitted him. He started packing his clothes and the necessary things to take along with him.

Finally, the day arrived and he had to leave, however, his father was very sad as he didn’t have anyone apart from his son. The farmer’s son started his journey and he had to go through a jungle. He was very tired walking so he thought of taking some rest. He sat under a tree and didn’t realize when he slept there. He didn’t know there was a ghost on that tree who was watching him. The ghost came in a different form in front of him and tried talking to him. The ghost asked about him and his family background. Farmer’s son found him too friendly so he told him that he lives with his father in a nearby village and he is going out of town for 3 years for his further studies.

After some time the farmer’s son left from there for his further journey and the ghost went back to the tree. The ghost was thinking about their conversation, he had a lot of problems like food and a place to stay, so he thought that the farmer’s son has gone to study for 3 years so he can take his form and go there.

The next day the ghost took the farmer’s son’s appearance and reached his home, the farmer was very surprised looking at him. He said you were going for your further studies. What happened? Why did you come back? He replied on the way I thought a lot about you and felt you are alone at home and who will take care of you. So I dropped the plan of going there and came back home to stay with you, I won’t be leaving you alone here. His father was very happy so he didn’t ask many questions. The next day they both started farming. Wherever the ghost worked in the field they got more than they expected. They started prospering and the financial issues were solved.

Days passed, months and then years, finally 3 years were done and the farmer’s son came back home. The farmer was shocked looking at him. Farmer’s son saw there was someone who looked like him. He just looked at his father and said I am your son. I have just completed my studies and came back. The ghost and the farmer’s son started arguing with each other. Looking at this he told both of them to stop arguing and asked a few questions to both of them but they gave the same answer. When the farmer’s son met the ghost in the jungle unknowingly he gave all the personal information about him and his father. The farmer was very confused and couldn’t understand what to do. Slowly the whole village came to know about this incident. One of the village people told the farmer to take them to King Vikramaditya.

The next day the farmer, his son, and the ghost went to king Vikramaditya. King Vikramaditya looked at both of them and heard their argument. The farmer told King Vikramaditya everything about the past 3 years. After listening to everyone he said that I will let you know who is the real son in some time.

King Vikramaditya told one of his workers to get a glass bottle. The bottle was brought and kept in front of the farmer’s son and the ghost and King Vikramaditya said who will go in this bottle is the real son. Listening to this the farmer’s son got angry and started arguing and said this is impossible. King Vikramaditya said that it is possible as your ancestors were blessed with a power that they can do anything whatever they want. Listening to this the ghost was very happy because he had the power to get in that bottle. Without wasting any time he went in that bottle and then King Vikramaditya covered the bottle with the cap and said he is your son and this was the ghost who had taken your son’s form. King Vikramaditya threw the bottle in the sea, and the farmer and his son lived happily afterward.
